"An ancient hollow road meandered through a break in the trees and it was just beginning to dry out except for one almighty brown puddle which forced coaches to slow. Any unfortunate coachman happening upon the puddle would be forced to dismount and, knee deep in the muddy water, lead the scared horses by hand through the quagmire, back to the dry track on the far side. It was this knowledge that led to the mounted and heavily armed figure choosing this location."
